Our Story
The history of The Travel Advisers Ltd, began in Shanghai in 1932. At that time, great demand was fuelled by the lure of the exotic Venice of the East for European companies to find their fortune there. The idea was born by two English gentlemen to provide passenger travel on steamships for families coming out to join their beloved ones in the great adventure. Among some of these shipping lines were American President Lines, Canadian Pacific, Mitsui, O.S.K., P & O, Blue Funnel, Lloyd Triestino and many others. Following the successful start in Shanghai, two more offices were subsequently added in Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
After the Second World War, only the office in Hong Kong remained from which business is conducted to this day. The Travel Advisers Ltd was the first to obtain an IATA licence in Hong Kong. As pioneers in the field in Hong Kong and through the years, we have managed to forge strong links with all aspects of the travel industry. The Travel Advisers Ltd was a founding member of the presently named Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Hong Kong Association of Travel Agents.
With a track record of 90 years, The Travel Advisers Ltd has progressed steadily from just selling sea voyages to the small overseas community living in Hong Kong to promoting travel into Hong Kong and China. In the 1970s and the 1980s when China first begin to open its door to the rest of the world, we were the first pioneers to organize group travel into China as well as bringing the first charter flight into Kunming.
The company now offers a complete spectrum of travel related services to our international clients. We offer the most competitive rates for hotel accommodation, ground transportation, sightseeing tours and air ticketing. We handle FIT and group wholesaler programs, incentives, special interest groups, conferences and exhibitions from around the world. One segment of the industry that we specialize in is the ground handling for the cruise ships that call into Hong Kong and China since the early 1980s.
